Keeping My Hat On!

Two weeks since my last post ... 2014 is starting out to be a busy year!  I wish I could say it's because I've been raking in the money, but at least I can say I'm paying the bills.  I'm writing this real quick before headed to work so I'm going to make this short and quick.  I just wanted to catch up on things and fill you in on changes I've already made this year.

About 6 weeks ago, I mentioned that I had taken on a second part-time job at a local spa.  While the people and place are great, I wasn't too thrilled.  Working six days a week between both part-time jobs (the other answering the phones at the real estate company that I work for) wasn't going to leave me much time to continue my real estate career that I've held on to for about 13 years.  Not to mention that I still wasn't making much money at the low hourly rate I was being paid.  So, what's the change?  On January 4th I quit my spa job!

No, I'm not a lazy person.  As luck would have it, the real estate company offered me more hours, and the best part ... they've agreed to let me work my real estate business while working for them!  Why couldn't they have offered me this before I took the spa job?!  Now, I had to quit after just 3 weeks.  I really hate doing stuff like this.  Anyway, I went in and did what I had to do.  The girls at the spa were very supportive and were glad to have me around during the Christmas rush.  They said if I ever change my mind, come on back.

My real estate pic ... keeping it around a little longer!

To say my mood is better is an understatement.  I hated to take off my real estate hat after wearing it for so long.  Now, I'm keeping my hat on!  To reassure my decision, I've already written an accepted offer on a house and I've got two new listings.  I'm showing one of my listings this afternoon, and I'm meeting a new client tomorrow to show her some condos.  I've been busier this past month than I've been in the past year!  I learned a long time ago not to count on the money till I'm at the closing table, but even just a few closings this year will keep my head above water.  Anything more than that ... means more in the cruising kitty, or less we could take for our house.  I'm feeling much better about 2014 ... just gotta sell our own house!

Hasta luego ... until then.  Mid-Life Cruising!

Good news and good luck on many closings in 2014! Happy new year, too!

That's great, Cheryl -- sounds like it was meant to be. And I love your RE photo. You look lovely and very trustworthy. Good luck with getting to some closings!

So interesting that we're both considering the same kinds of things! I've been toying with getting a part time job but don't want to give up the flexibility of my profession. Good for you for sticking with yours! I hope it pays off for you in big dividends this year. And that you sell your house soon. Maybe the RE market is looking up!
