Valentine's Day 2011

My two valentines ... Ken and our daughter, Erica, in 1993.
We've always loved the water!
Although Ken and I have never been a huge fan of the way the holidays have become so commercialized, I thought I'd take a minute to wish everybody a "Happy Valentine's Day"!

I have mixed emotions about this particular holiday, as I always start thinking of those that do not have a "significant other".  I mean, everywhere you turn ... the tv, radio, and of course the stores are placing ads showing couples celebrating their love with expensive jewelry, flowers and candy.  I often start wondering how many lonely people view these ads and feel like they're missing out on something.  And if you are in a relationship, the ads try to make you feel like if you're really loved you'll be showered with gifts!

So for those reading this, whether you are in a relationship or not, make today a great day! If you are single, who cares?!  Celebrate your friendships, family, or passions that make you happy.  Love yourself, then happiness will follow!

What are we doing to celebrate the day?  Although we refuse to get caught up in the buying frenzy, we can't pretend the day doesn't exist either.  So, we gave each other a kiss and a hug before leaving for work this morning, wished each other a "Happy Valentine's Day",  and I'm hoping to have pizza delivered tonight.  That's it!  And to be honest, I'm only ordering pizza because I hate cooking and figure I might be able to get away with it tonight.  =)

Who knows?  We might make the night really special and pick out some new fenders for our sailboat!  After all, a dollar saved on Valentine's Day is a dollar more for Nirvana!

Hasta luego ... until then.  Mid-Life Cruising!

Hubby and I exchange cards and that's it. We never go out and we don't need to either. I'm with you concerning this holiday. I've spent many a Valentine's day alone. I didn't mind though as it was my choice.

Have a terrific Valentine's day and enjoy the pizza. :)

I hate the whole V/Day hype too. Heaven help those who aren't in a 'relationship' because they must be losers! This year Hans made me a homemade card which was much nicer than one from the store, and I was actually able to buy one in Vero Beach on VD itself (even if Hans beat me to the punch). Right now pizza sounds wonderful!
