Treating Myself ... For Nirvana!

With a tight budget, I rarely make an impulse purchase.  But, when I see a good deal on something we can use on the boat ... it's hard to resist.  This past week I found myself ordering not one, but two, "Living Social" deals!  I figured these two purchases were just as much for our boat, Nirvana, as they were for myself .. so I used that justification to treat myself.  "Living Social" is like "Groupon", where you're able to purchase a voucher for a product at a great deal.  Even better, once you make a purchase, you're given a link of that deal to share with friends.  If 3 or more people buy it, you get your purchase free.

The first deal I bought is pictured above, which is a micro-fiber/bamboo sheet set ... for only $30 (plus $10 shipping).  I chose the king-sized so I'd have room to tie the corners of the sheets under our v-berth, and I chose "Sage" ... a cool, light colored green.  I've never had bamboo blend sheets, but I've heard great things about them from other sailing women and they're usually close to $200, so I'm excited about this and can't wait to be able to actually sleep on them someday.  But, they're not getting opened till they go in our v-berth!  Evidently these type of sheets are supposed to handle years of washing, keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.  The "cool in the summer" got my attention.  I really think this is a great deal, so I posted it on Facebook and ... I wound up getting my sheets for free.  Woo hoo!  If you order these sheets, I can tell you that you don't choose the color until you redeem the voucher on the linen's web site.  The site is a bit slow but it works.

Since I was getting a credit for the sheets, I went ahead and ordered the solar USB charger for $16 (plus $6 shipping).  I figured I'd give it a try, and maybe I'll get this free too!  I need just one more person to order from the link above (hint, hint)*.  Anyway, I wonder if any of you have had any experience with either bamboo-blend sheets or solar USB chargers?  I'm not expecting miracles with the charger, but I think it will be good to have on the boat.  It's normally $59.99 so it should be halfway decent right?  I'll let you know in the future.

Living on a shoestring budget isn't always easy, so I love to find a bargain.  In fact, I'm working on a "Frugal Friday" post for the end of this week.  It's about another great product/service that I found and it's going to save our household money every month.  Look for it this Friday ... a penny saved is a penny earned!

Hasta luego ... until then.  Mid-Life Cruising!

*Thanks to all of you I'm also getting the solar USB charger free!  Since I haven't paid for anything yet ... I just had to order these solar LED lights from "Living Social" too.  I'm hoping they'll work well in the cockpit ... just gotta figure out where to stick the solar panel.  It's small enough to figure it out, I'm sure.  Thanks ya'll!
