With another one-day weekend, we chose to spend our Sunday in New Orleans ... again. Yes, there was yet another event going on! This time it was Navy Week, which is a four-year event celebrating the bicentennial of the war of 1812 and the Star Spangled Banner. This event is beginning and ending in New Orleans, and it brought several ships and military vessels from around the world to the river front.
Ken and I expected large crowds at the event on Sunday, especially since Saturday was bad weather. So, we knew we wouldn't be able to view all of the boats and chose to view the two tall ships from Ecuador and Indonesia. .However, Ken had to work that morning and by the time we arrived around 2:00 the lines were really long ... too long! With absolutely gorgeous weather, we were content to just walk along the river front and look at the ships from the outside.
This was the first military vessel that we came across. If you look really hard in the far background you can see another military vessel way back there! You can't see the long lines, but they were there ... to the left of this picture.
I was using my cheap phone camera, so I had no ability to zoom in on these vessels but they were impressive!
Heading away from the military vessels and towards the two tall ships, and the Natchez steamboat that's always in New Orleans. You can see the two tall ships right in front of the second set of buildings to the right of the "Crescent City Connection" ... the bridge across the Mississippi River.

There were over 3,000 sailors in town. They seemed to be having a blast in the French Quarter!
Ended the day with a few drinks and a seafood meal on Bourbon Street. Yep, that's Ken to the right. Of course, we had a Groupon coupon!

All of the ships left the port of New Orleans on Monday morning ... we wish we could have went with them!

Oh cocktails! On such a tight budget that I can't even do that. I hope you guys enjoyed those for me hehe! Still lovely pictures :)

Looks like fun. Back in my Navy days, I was onboard the USS Inchon (Small Carrier) and we made a port visit at NOLA for the entire Mardi Gras, back in 1995. I had to give tours of the SH-60 Helicopter by day, and hang out at Tolouse Street by night. It was a very long two weeks, believe me.
