A Kick-Ass Staycation!

A kick-ass staycation ... or should I say a staycation that kicked our ass!  After working Monday and Tuesday of this past week, Ken and I were able to get away from our regular jobs for a few days, but we weren't headed out of town ... thus a "staycation".  However, this staycation wasn't any fun ... not for us landlords!  Instead of spending a few days getting our house ready for sale or sailing on Nirvana, we were once again cleaning and repairing our rental house for a new tenant ... ugh!

Thursday, Friday and Saturday were spent pulling weeds, trimming bushes, hauling trash, pressure washing, cleaning, and on and on.  I woke up Friday morning with every part of my body aching after spending all day Thursday working in the yard, and I still had two more days to go!  Actually, I was hoping that we'd be done by Friday evening but no such luck.  Did I mention how much I hate cleaning houses?  I'd much rather work on our boat any day!

Anyway, we finally finished Saturday evening and I swear we'd better not have to go through this again any time soon!  We're getting too old for this!  At least I am ... I don't know how Ken manages to go to work building and renovating every day.  I truly appreciate what he goes through every week, and we need to get cruising soon so he can have a break!

So, another law suit filed for excessive damages way beyond the security deposit!  It never ceases to amaze me how people can move out, claiming to have left the house in "good or better condition" .. only to find they didn't do a damned thing.  I mean, they didn't even bother to wipe down the toilet seat ... yuck!  Then there's writing on the walls, broken doors, a pile of trash in the yard including mattresses, a sofa and a playset ... C'mon man!

By Saturday night we could barely move and sat on the sofa in front of the television ... comfortably numb!

We did, however, squeeze in a day for us on Wednesay and Sunday.  What did we do on those days?  More work!  But, it was boat work so it was a pleasure compared to working on the rental!  Last week we received our "retrofit windows" from our sponsor, Cruising Concepts.  We are so excited about the thought of no more leaks on Nirvana.  Plus, we're pretty excited about getting rid of those old and ugly aluminum port frames.  Nivana should be looking a lot younger!

Our new ports reading for installation!

Luckily, we got the bulk of this project complete on Wednesday, because by Sunday we were exhausted!  Also, the weather was perfect ... low humidity, blue skies and highs in the low 80's.  We were glad to be outdoors.  We're not finished just yet, but we're almost there.  We just need to clean around some of the ports and finish installing the interior trim and we're done!  Once this project is complete I'll write a post about the process, with lots of pictures.  We're happy with the results so far and can't wait to pull the brown paper off the windows (ports) to see Nirvana's new look.

New ports installed ... waiting for the big reveal!

Now I need to go take some more Ibuprofen!

Hasta luego ... until then.  Mid-Life Cruising!

Are those rentals worth the work? I sure hope so. People are such slobs. They truly are.

We are on a kick-ass bay cruise. We are currently at the Corinthian Yacht Club. Today we leave for San Francisco.

Have a terrific day. :)

Sorry to hear about all the slobs. Hope you find some nice tenants soon. Nirvana's looking good. Making me feel lazy.

Congrats!
A cruising friend who lived aboard 8-years until her mid-70's advised me that cleaning the windows is the quickest way to spruce up the boat. I have found that to be true.
