Cheryl -- If that Danforth and the rode/chain are your primary system, I strongly urge you to think about upgrading your ground tackle before heading off. Then again, Nirvana may have come with other ground tackle that I don't know about and this is just extra :)

Thanks Carolyn for the tip! Ya know when I typed the anchor info I almost put in parenthesis that we definitely plan on getting another, much bigger n better anchor! The only one Nirvana had fell into the water .. don't ask. =)

I want to sleep at night and not be a bundle of nerves, so we'll be getting something obnoxious. Soon I'm going to write a post about all the things we still need to buy ... a lot!

Glad to hear it!! A great quote (maybe from Dashews??) is that if other people come down the dock and laugh at how large your anchor is, you've got it about right! Not so true now with the new generation anchors that you have to be so oversized. Should you decide that you want a Spade, be sure to contact me or search on The Boat Galley for discount info!

I would love to hear more about the stun gun! You guys are doing way better costwise than us. We bought a 47 ft Hylas in 2010. We got it for a great price, but have lots to do. Our plan is to move aboard in 6-7 years and take off in 9. Lot's more for us to do also. We are in the process of looking at switching to LED's, replacing the headliner and our nav equipment is on it's way as we speak from EBAY.

Just wanted to let you know I stole your idea for this page. I added a costs page thats focused on the cost to prep the boat to go!

Thanks for the idea.

You need only a survey for insurance.
A condition and value survey. This type cost us 420.00 here in California. After this and some repairs required by Boat US we cut our premiums in half to 307 per year.

If I am in Mississippi sometime I will try to contact you about cleaning your hull. I am scuba certified and love getting in the water. In payment all I ask is you tech me how to sail.
